Virtual schools have become a popular alternative for students with special needs who may not be successful in traditional school environments, but experts differ on whether online learning — in its current form — is a good fit for special education. Many educators say the benefits include fewer distractions, a self-paced curriculum and the capability for online portfolios, while concerns include requiring a higher level of participation from parents, as well as issues of accessibility.
