Smartphones and other hand-held, networked devices have the ability to revolutionize the way educators teach and children learn — and companies, government entities and organizations alike are launching programs to unlock their potential. The Education Department has set aside $5 billion for pilot technology programs, foundations have started educational-investing ventures and companies such as Google, Nokia and Sony have distributed hand-held devices to classrooms.
