Coalition Aims to Close Digital Divide for HUD Households
The Hill
A new coalition, called the Digital Adoption Coalition, has formed with the goal of spurring the increase of broadband Internet adoption among the poorest households in the U.S. The coalition includes One Economy, Connected Nation, AT&T, Comcast, Dell, Intel, Time Warner Cable and USTelecom, among others. The group intends work with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide low-cost computers and training, in addition to Internet access. The Department of Commerce has reported that 35 percent of households in the U.S. do not have broadband Internet access, with the lowest levels of adoption being among those in low-income communities. The coalition is seeking federal funding to support the initiative.
