Education Secretary Announces Senior Staff Appointments

U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced the following nine appointments to his senior staff:

  • Margot Rogers, chief of staff, formerly with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and New American Schools
  • Juan Sepulveda, director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, formerly with Common Enterprise and the Rockefeller Foundation
  • Judy Wurtzel, deputy assistant secretary, Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, formerly with The Aspen Institute
  • David Hoff, deputy assistant secretary for Communication Development, formerly with Education Week
  • John White, press secretary, formerly with Prince George County, MD Public Schools
  • Kevin Jennings, assistant deputy secretary, Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, formerly with the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN)
  • Stacey Jordan, director of Intergovernmental Affairs, formerly with The Education Sector
  • Dianne Piche, deputy assistant secretary for enforcement, Office of Civil Rights, formerly with the Citizens’ Commission on Civil Rights
  • Julius Lloyd Horwich, deputy assistant secretary, Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs, formerly with the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Education and Labor Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education 9-senior-appmnts1
