Creating and Connecting: Research and Guidelines on Online Social - and Educational - Networking
Tags:EducationHow are kids using the social networking sites? Find out in this report on social networking by Grunwald Associates, conducted in cooperation with the National School Boards Association and underwritten by MySpace/News Corp, Microsoft, and Verizon.
Nearly all (96%) of kids aged 9 - 17, this survey found, are chatting, text messaging, blogging, and creating pages on social sites.
NSBA recomends that schools:
- Consider using social networking for staff communications and professional development;
- Find ways to harness the educational value of social netowrking;
- Ensure equitable access;
- Pay attention to the nonconformers; and
- Encourage social networking companies to increase educational value.
