Recognizing Assistive and Adaptive Technologies that Embrace the Universal Design Principle

Following closely upon the 2007 da Vinci Awards Ceremony held September 28th, the Awards Search Committee for the 2008 da Vinci Awards has released a call for next year’s nominees.

The da Vinci Awards recognize the most innovative developments and research in adaptive and assistive technology that embrace the Universal Design principle. This recognition will drive the marketplace to stimulate investment in and the development of further creative advances in Disability Accommodation and Adaptive Technology, ultimately enabling everyone full participation in all aspects of society.

Nominees come from a number of countries and represent a broad spectrum of sciences, technologies and industries. Nomination forms are available online at www.davinciawards.org. Submissions are due by May 19, 2008.

The da Vinci Awards also recognize those individuals and corporations who distinguish themselves as visionaries in the quest for equal access and opportunity for all people regardless of ability.

The da Vinci Awards were founded seven years ago by Michael J. Rokosz, former Ford Motor Company research scientist, President of MJR Labs and Board member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Michigan Chapter. Proceeds from the da Vinci Awards benefit the Society. MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS through our 50 state network chapters. The Society is dedicated to achieving a world free of MS. We are people who want to do something about MS now. Join the movement at www.nationalmssociety.org.

In addition, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Michigan Chapter will have a unique presence at this year’s North American International Auto Show, thanks to the generosity of a major supporter, General Motors. In an effort to raise awareness of their drive to create a world free of Multiple Sclerosis, the Michigan Chapter of the National MS Society will occupy a corner of the Cadillac display on the main floor of Cobo Hall, throughout the auto show.  Starting with the Press Preview opening, January 13, 2008, the National MS Society will staff their display until the public show closes on January 27th.
