Q: Do we need to submit a Human Subjects Protection plan for our research effort?
A: Yes. Upon award, you will need to provide documentation of approval of your plan to protect human subjects by your institution’s Internal Review Board AND submit the plan for AIR’s review. If you do not work for an institution that has an IRB process in place, you may submit your plans for the protection of subjects to AIR’s IRB for approval.
Q: May an organization submit more than one proposal for consideration?
A: An organization may submit several proposals for consideration, but only one proposal may be chosen for funding.
Q: Are schools excluded from the application process because they may be considered quasi-governmental?
A: Schools are not excluded from this competition. We welcome applications from schools and other agencies that serve children.
Q: Are subjects of the research required to be students?
A: No. Research related to technology and training would be acceptable.
Q: Is there a requirement for the minimum number of subjects in a study?
A: No. A small set of subjects is acceptable.
Q: May the subcontract funds be used to support an already existing research project?
A: Yes, if the funds support an expansion of that project.
Q: May matching funds total less than $15,000?
A: No, matching funds must equal at least $15,000.
Q: May the matching funds be given in the form of in-kind staff and materials?
A: Yes. We encourage creativity!
Q: When are the funds released to awarded projects?
A: We will work with the proposed fiduciary agent starting immediately after awards are announced. It is our intent to release funds within four weeks from announcement.
Q: Are preliminary results acceptable for presentation at the NCTI Conference in November 2005?
A: Yes.
Q: What is the completion date for the funded projects?
A: The end date of all funded projects is January 15, 2006.
Q: When are the final reports due?
A: Final reports are due to NCTI by February 15, 2006.
Q: Can the funds be used to purchase technology equipment?
A: No. These funds cannot be used to purchase hardware or software.
Q: Can the funds be budgeted to cover indirect costs?
A: Yes, but only five percent of the funds may cover
administrative and indirect costs.
